What to look for in a curing light

A dental curing light (light cure unit) emits blue light that sets light-cured composites, bonding agents, sealants and other restorative materials. Its wavelength range must match the material’s photoinitiator, and its intensity and modes decide how efficiently it cures.

Curing light buying guide

Wavelength: standard vs broad spectrum

Most composites use camphorquinone, which responds to blue light around 440–480 nm. Some materials use other photoinitiators that need light closer to the violet range. A broad-spectrum light such as the CV-215 G2 (385–515 nm) covers both. Check the material manufacturer’s recommendation.

Intensity and curing modes

  • Intensity (mW/cm²) affects curing time and depth; follow the material’s instructions.
  • Progressive / soft-start modes ramp up the light gradually.
  • Pulse modes cycle the light on and off.
  • High-power / strong modes give short exposures for suitable materials.

Cordless use, battery and head design

Both models are cordless with 1000 mAh Li-ion batteries and universal 100–240 V charging. A rotatable head (G1) or metal light guide (G2) helps reach posterior teeth.

LED curing light price in India

Price depends on wavelength range, intensity, modes, battery, light guide, build and brand. AGKEM quotes the CV-215 G1 and G2 on enquiry.

Care and safety

  • Use an eye-protection shield or filter during curing.
  • Keep the light tip clean and free of cured material.
  • Use barrier sleeves where recommended.
  • Check output periodically with a curing light meter if available.

Curing light FAQs

What is a dental curing light used for?

Setting light-cured materials such as composites, bonding agents and sealants by exposing them to blue light.

What wavelength should a dental curing light have?

Camphorquinone-based composites respond to roughly 440–480 nm. Broad-spectrum lights like the CV-215 G2 (385–515 nm) also cover materials with other photoinitiators.

What is the difference between the CV-215 G1 and G2?

The G1 is a 5 W light at 430–485 nm and up to 1,400 mW/cm². The G2 is a 10 W broad-spectrum light at 385–515 nm and up to 1,800 mW/cm², with progressive, pulse and strong modes.

Are these curing lights cordless?

Yes. Both use rechargeable 1000 mAh Li-ion batteries.

How long should I cure composite?

Follow the composite manufacturer’s instructions for your light’s intensity and the increment thickness.

What is the price of an LED curing light in India?

It depends on wavelength, intensity, modes and brand. AGKEM shares current pricing on request.
